Increase the Performance of Your Old Mac Under a Fresh macOS Installation

Thinking of giving your old Mac a modern makeover? I just installed macOS Ventura on my trusty old Mac mini from 2011. But now that it’s up and running, what’s next? Well, let’s dive into some essential settings tweaks to make sure your Mac, whether it’s vintage like mine or something a bit newer, runs as smoothly and quickly as possible under this shiny new operating system.

Open System Settings, go to Desktop & Dock. Scroll down and deactivate Animate opening applications:

Change Minimize windows using… Genie Effect to Scale Effect:

Go into the Accessibility section, click on Display and activate Reduce Motion:

Since I will not be using Siri in this computer, I can disable it. Go to the Siri & Spotlight section and disable Ask Siri:

I will not be using this computer as my mainly driver, so there is no need to have Handoff on. Go to the General section, click on AirDrop & Handoff. Disable Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices:

While at it, disable AirPlay Receiver:

That’s it! Enjoy a much better and faster experience.
