For those that need to get the most out of their system and don’t care about “fancy features”, this list of tweaks is for you:

1. Visuals. Control Panel –> System –> Advance system settings. Under Performance, click on Settings and this is how it should look.

2. Write Caching. Control Panel –> Device Manager –> Open the Disk drives and right click on them. Then go to the tab called Policies and Enable write caching on the device.

3. Remove unneeded startup programs. Go to Start and in the “Search programs and files” box type “msconfig”. Go to the Startup tab and deselect “strange” or un-needed items.

4. Remove unneeded services. Go to Start and in the “Search programs and files” box type “msconfig”. Go to the Services tab and deselect “strange” or un-needed items. Tip: click on “Hide all Microsoft services” before you go thur the list.

5. Turn Windows features off. Control Panel –> Programs and Features –> On the left side, click on Turn Windows features on or off. This is what I don’t need, but if you have a Table computer or other kind of features, your list might vary:

Games

Indexing Service

Internet Information Services

Internet Information Services Hostable Web…

Under Media Features “Windows DVD Maker” and “Windows Media Center”

RIP Listener

Simple Network Management…

Simple TCPIP services…

Table PC Components

Telnet Client

Telnet Server

TFTP Client

Windows Gadget Platform

Windows Process Activation Service

Windows TIFF IFilter

Windows Virtual PC (I Use Oracle VM VirtualBox)

XPS Services

XPS Viewer

6. Disable Hibernate. Go to Start and in the “Search programs and files” box type “cmd”. In the cmd window, type the following: “powercfg -h off” and press ENTER. Now type “exit” and press ENTER.

Once this is done, you should run CCleaner or/and Glary Utilities just to have a clean start.
